Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy

Although I offer a number of adjuncts to what I do, these are all in the context of an ongoing psychotherapy.  It involves an initial psychiatric assessment to help determine what your needs are, identifying them and choosing which of the therapies I offer will participate in the basic therapy designed to help you attain your realistic goals.

The therapies I use are drawn from a number of schools and for the most part are insight driven.  Where trauma is involved, a phase-oriented treatment will be the model.  The need of the patient is the guide.

The therapy will be paced to allow you to move towards your goal in as comfortable a state as possible. That is not to say that there will be no pain or uncomfortable moments.  Some other therapies will be used to help decrease the anxiety states that sometimes get in the way.  For example, we might use EFT – tearless trauma work, or Neurofeedback to assist you in bringing up the information you need to better understand yourself.

When and if medication appears to be a helpful adjunct it will be in the lowest dosage to permit safe help and will be time limited, where possible.  Side effects will be an important part of the discussion.   I do not provide medication management, alone.

This is of necessity a very limited outline of the therapy provided. If you have specific questions please feel free to call me for more information at 518 392-6932 and I will do my best to answer.
